Erica Stone is a licensed clinical social worker providing integrative outpatient psychotherapy that harnesses the power of the mind and body to heal the whole person. Her philosophy is that it is possible to be a work in progress and a masterpiece at the same time.
She specializes in working with adults with mood/anxiety problems, chronic pain, and follow-through difficulties (including but not limited to homework, dissertations and artistic projects).
She uses a strength-based approach that blends cognitive-behavioral therapy and narrative therapy in order to help connect clients with new perspectives that are more compassionate, accepting, and integrative. To support and fortify talk therapy, Erica also engages clients in therapeutic writing and journaling to help clients continue to explore their goals and values and discover how to reach them. Erica, a registered yoga teacher with a certification in yoga-informed psychotherapy, utilizes evidence-based holistic techniques that capitalize on the mind-body connection including mindfulness, meditation, guided imagery, and therapeutic breathing.
Erica is a trained Reiki practitioner who offers Reiki therapy to clients outside of psychotherapy. Reiki is a body-based form of relaxation and stress reduction that involves gentle touch. Research has demonstrated that Reiki is an effective means of decreasing symptoms of depression, anxiety, pain and fatigue, while promoting energy and a general sense of well being through a decrease of stress hormones like cortisol and the increased release of “feel good” hormones like oxytocin.
Erica earned her master’s degree from the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration in 2011 with a concentration in cognitive-behavioral and behavioral therapy. She has trained in community counseling centers around Chicago. Her recent work with individuals with cancer and their caregivers has motivated her to help people live their most authentic lives now. She is currently a fellow at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis.
When she isn’t at the office or exploring Chicago’s neighborhoods, Erica is likely in her red rocking chair knitting a blanket, playing the accordion, or working on her collection of short stories.
