The Center for Behavioral Medicine, established in 1984, uses knowledge of psychology (the science of behavior), biology, and medicine to help children, adolescents, and adults lead healthier, more productive, and more satisfying lives. Each program begins with an in-depth assessment. Then, a treatment plan is recommended, usually consisting of individual, small group, or family cognitive-behavior therapy conducted by professionals. Within the context of a supportive relationship, participants use skills such as goal-setting, planning, problem-solving, stress managements, and positive focusing to improve the quality of their lives. They are also helped to mobilize a network of support to help them change.
