Sport Psychology

Our staff has consulted with the US Olympic Committee, NBA, LPGA, Chicago Bears, and hundreds of professional, elite, and serious amateur athletes in dozens of sports. Our Center’s Director is one of only a few sport psychologists in the State of Illinois who is currently listed in the US Olympic Committee’s Registry of Sport Psychologists and is Certified by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.
Improving Performance
We use individual and group consultations with athletes and coaches and parents, event/game coverage (including videotaped analysis and feedback), and team building techniques to maximize performance for junior amateurs to age group athletes to world class and professional competitors in:
- baseball
- basketball
- bowling
- boxing
- football
- golf
- hockey
- gymnastics
- judo, karate and other martial arts
- mixed martial arts
- running (from sprints to marathons to iron man triathlons)
- swimming and diving
- tennis and other racket sports
Evaluating Potential
Based on each team’s specific requests (e.g., screening potential draft picks), we use specialized psychological testing, structured interviews with athletes and staff, and systematic reviews of personnel files to evaluate players’ mental games and psychological strengths and weaknesses. Players complete non-threatening questionnaires and interviews in less than one hour. We also obtain systematic ratings from coaches and staff. We complile all of this information into reports focused on the specific questions and concerns raised by team personnel.
